My little experiment with academia.edu and Google Scholar was a success: The paper I uploaded to academia.edu last month can now be found in the search results of Google Scholar. That means, that academia.edu is indeed a viable alternative for getting papers listed in Google Scholar if the website of your institution is not yet indexed.

Hristina Petrova: That's cool! Can you also publish papers which haven't been published somewhere online - I just saw there's an option even for talks. Do they have databases or something, or it's up to you to upload them

Hristina Petrova: Not that it's rocket science writing it; I just never before have considered Amazon as anything else than online store. Rather, it could be a social media/personal account with reviews.
